Young adults living together in a supportive community environment

Our Program

A place to land — and a community to grow in.

Freedom House is transitional housing built around one simple belief: independence should never require isolation.

What Freedom House is

Freedom House provides safe, stable, and affordable transitional housing for young adults ages 18–24 who are aging out of foster care or residential treatment. We exist to fill the gap between supported care and full independence — giving residents the time, community, and resources they need to build a lasting foundation.

The Roommate Model

Living together changes everything.

At the heart of Freedom House is a roommate-based housing model. Rather than placing young adults into isolated situations where they may struggle alone, we intentionally create opportunities for residents to live with peers navigating similar transitions.

  • Build real friendships and lasting connections
  • Practice communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution
  • Share household responsibilities and learn to contribute
  • Develop trust in a stable, consistent environment

For many former foster youth, healthy peer relationships and stable living environments have been inconsistent throughout their lives. Freedom House provides something many have never fully had: a household where friendships can grow, trust can develop, and a genuine sense of belonging can emerge.

How We Support Residents

Five pillars. One direction: forward.

01

Stable Housing

Affordable, roommate-based housing in a safe environment — giving residents the stability to focus on their future rather than their next place to sleep.

02

Mentorship & Relationships

Caring adults who show up consistently. Residents are surrounded by mentors who believe in their potential and provide guidance through life's inevitable challenges.

03

Workforce & Education

We encourage and support residents in pursuing employment, higher education, vocational training, and career advancement — building toward financial independence.

04

Life Skills Development

From managing rent and household responsibilities to financial literacy and personal wellness — residents practice the skills of adult life within a supportive environment.

05

Community & Belonging

A culture of accountability, encouragement, and connection. Residents are treated as capable young adults while being surrounded by positive influences and genuine community.

A Bridge, Not a Destination

The right next step in the continuum of care.

Freedom House serves as a valuable extension of the continuum of care for youth-serving agencies. It provides an appropriate next step for young adults who no longer require intensive services but who would benefit from additional time in a structured, supportive environment before assuming complete independence.

This gradual transition helps protect the substantial progress youth have achieved — and reduces the likelihood that housing instability will undermine their future success.

"Independence should never require isolation. Every young adult deserves the opportunity to experience safe housing, meaningful relationships, personal growth, and hope for the future."
