About Freedom House
We exist because the system stops — but young people don't.
When foster care ends at 18, the support often ends with it. Freedom House was built to change that.
The problem is real — and it's urgent.
Every year in Colorado, hundreds of young people age out of foster care with no family safety net, no stable housing, and no roadmap for what comes next. The outcomes are stark.
youth age out of Colorado foster care each year
experience homelessness within 18 months of aging out
are unemployed two years after leaving care
experience incarceration within two years of aging out
These aren't statistics about strangers. They're about young people who grew up in our communities, who deserved stability and didn't get it, and who are now navigating adulthood without the foundation most of us take for granted.
Our Mission
Stable housing. Positive community. A pathway forward.
Freedom House provides transitional housing and wraparound support for young adults aging out of foster care in Colorado. We believe that every young person — regardless of their history — deserves a safe place to live, people who believe in them, and the tools to build a life of purpose and independence.
Our Vision
"A Colorado where no young adult ages out of foster care into homelessness."
Our Story
Born from a simple, stubborn belief.
Freedom House was founded by people who had seen firsthand what happens when young adults leave foster care without a net. Not in statistics — in real lives. In young people sleeping on couches, cycling through shelters, losing jobs because they had no stable address.
The founders believed that the answer wasn't just a roof. It was community. Research consistently shows that young adults who live alongside peers who are succeeding — in school, at work, in life — are far more likely to succeed themselves. Witnessing others thrive becomes proof that a better future is possible.
So Freedom House was built around that insight: shared homes where residents live together, support each other, and witness each other's victories. Not a shelter. Not a program. A community.
What makes Freedom House different
Community, not just housing
Residents live alongside peers who share their experiences. The community itself becomes a source of accountability, motivation, and healing — something no single case manager can replicate.
Long-term stability
We offer housing for up to two years — long enough for residents to finish a degree, establish employment, build savings, and develop the life skills needed for lasting independence.
Wraparound support
Housing is just the beginning. Residents receive mentorship, life-skills training, educational support, and employment preparation — all within the context of a stable, supportive home.
Rooted in research
Our model is built on evidence. The peer-community approach draws on decades of research showing that social environment is one of the strongest predictors of outcomes for youth transitioning out of care.
